High-impact polystyrene (HIPS) stands out for its excellent impact strength, hygienic properties, high heat-retention capacity, attractive appearance and resistance to hot water. Polystyrene is used to make yogurt cups, jewelry boxes, plates, carrying boxes, toys, food containers and clothes hangers. Polystyrene foams are also widely used for sound and thermal insulation, packaging and other applications.
